Established in 1848, Hancock Lumber Company is a sixth generation, family owned business operating a land company, a sawmill division and a retail business. Our company is one of America's oldest and most distinguished family-owned lumber companies. We have constantly evolved to meet the changing needs of our customers, communities and industry.
Hancock Land Company is a national leader in timberland management and certified forestry practices. We own and manage over 12,000 acres of certified timberlands in Western Maine. All of our land is open to the public for hiking, hunting, fishing, and recreation. Additionally, our land is managed for multiple uses, with considerations given to water quality, soil quality, wildlife habitat, and forestry. Please visit our website to learn more about our Jugtown Forest, the 5,000 acre parcel of private land open to the public for recreational use located in Casco, Naples and Otisfield.
Our sawmill division consists of three Eastern White Pine sawmills across the state – our oldest mill, “Ryefield”, in Casco; one in Pittsfield, and another in Bethel. In an era when manufacturing jobs are leaving the United States, our sawmill division continues to grow.
Today our retail division consists of nine retail stores: six lumber yards, retail stores and showrooms; two discount outlet “Bargain Barns”; and, a Window Store by Hancock Lumber. We also feature a commercial sales division, installed sales, and offer engineered wall panels. We work directly with builders, developers, project managers, architects and homeowners to plan, design, and build residential homes and commercial buildings.
Six generations of continuous operations, growing trees, keeping Maine green, manufacturing renewable and sustainable Eastern White Pine products, and creating housing for Mainers. This is what we do. To make it even better we do it all as a local, independent Maine company in an age of global giants. Maine needs local companies like ours to compete, win, and remain independent. When you step back and look at our company in this way you see how special we really are and how lucky we are to be connected to all of you! |
