Buddy Hall had always appreciated quality. As a boy growing up in rural Fayette county, Kentucky, Buddy always knew where to find the best blackberry and strawberry patches. While operating his orchard in neighboring Scott County, he raised only the best varieties of fruits and vegetables. When he wanted to develop his own line of preserves and fruit butters, he looked to the Shakers of nearby Mercer County for inspiration.
The Shakers, who thrived at Pleasant Hill in the first half of the 19th century, were renowned for quality, whether it was building sturdy buildings, making functional furniture and brooms, raising prize-winning livestor or cooking simple, but delicious food. Buddy combined extensive study of Shaker recipes and cooking techniques with his own exhaustive experimentation to produce a unique and delicious line of home style preserves, relishes, salsas, marinades and desserts sauces.
Located in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky, The Applecreek Orchards kitchen was started in 1975 by Buddy Hall with the help of his wife Betty and their two children, Chip and Amy. Since Buddy's passing in February 2009, Chip and his wife Karen along with his long-time friends Mike and Tammy Leal are carrying on the Applecreek Orchards tradition of using the freshest ingredients to provide the best quality products. Chip personally supervises the preparation of all Applecreek Orchards products which are prepared and packed by hand and made in small, carefully controlled quantities to help insure their freshness and flavor. |
