STATEMENT OF CAPABILITIES
Catalina China, Inc.
1600 S. Cherrybell Stravenue
Tucson, AZ 85713
A Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business
History: The Company formed in Tucson and began manufacturing there in 1990. Mugs and small bowls were our first products. Within two years, we were making three million mugs per year. In 2003, we acquired and began utilizing the assets of H. F. Coors China Company, a Western US, and full-service commercial tableware manufacturer.
What we do: We sell our mugs and tableware to retailers, decorators, and the foodservice industry (restaurants, hotels, resorts, stadiums, hospitals and other institutions) all over the United States. All our products are made from scratch in Tucson, Arizona. Our products are high-fired to 2320 degrees F, are vitreous, and contain no toxic materials. We meet or exceed government standards for the foodservice industry. We sell many white, solid colored or highly decorated shapes.
Government work: We were awarded our first GSA Contract in February, 1999. When this contract expired, we were awarded our current GSA Multiple Schedule Award contract, contract number GS-07F-0131K. We have been shipping more than $50,000 per annum to the GSA since 1999. Additionally, we sell to VA hospitals through a reseller and directly.
Our Staff: Our three senior management staff owns the company. Between them, they have more than 80 years experience manufacturing ceramics in both the United States and England. The majority owner is a Service Disabled Veteran, and an MBA. Our six key staff members have been working for us an average of more than seven years each; our twenty five core employees, for an average of two years, and 90% of them can multi-task. Additionally, we have a nation-wide network of foodservice industry dealers and distributors who sell our ware.
Our president, Dirck Schou's belief in the importance of retaining Commercial China manufacturing in the United States led to his purchase and relocation of the Coors China Company from Los Angeles to Tucson, Arizona. in 2003.
Since then many other commercial and retail china corporations have moved their manufacturing operations to China to increase corporate profits and reduce liabilities. , They also have eliminated their responsibility for the success of workers and communities in this county and left employees with few options for their future success and family security.
Dirck has invested in plant and employees in Tucson to create jobs and stimulate a better quality of life for those workers.
He has worked tirelessly to create a product line that offers the commercial industry a competitive product that is “not made in China.”
As a decorated veteran in the Vietnam War he has known adversity and has preserved through the start up phase of plant and personnel development. The patterns of this catalog and web site are testimony to his dedication to innovative product and his love of the American Southwest and its rich pottery tradition.
I know once you have reviewed the offering you will share Dirck’s vision of the importance of supporting the rich craft traditions of this growing American pottery. Dirck and all the employees of the “New Coors China “welcome you to visit and share his American Dream. |
