John and Fabia met at UC Berkeley in February of 1982, in the dining room of the Unit 1 dorms.

Fabia Fuenzalida, knowledge engineer and fly fisher, was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1962 and my life has been full of interesting people, surprising travels, and memorable ideas, thanks to my mother, artist Lucía Waiser, and my father, sociologist and law school professor Edmundo Fuenzalida. After attending school in Chile, Europe, and the United States, together with my sister Sandra, I then went on to complete a B.A. at the University of California - Berkeley in what today would be called Symbolic Systems, and then a Masters degree in Education in Interactive Technology at Harvard University. I worked for many years as an excursion tour guide for Club Med, on 3 continents, and then ran the Bing Overseas Studies Program in Latin America, based in Santiago, for 15 years. Today I live again in the San Francisco Bay Area with my love, John Rivera, and we regularly visit my family in Chile, including my niece, Antonia, and my nephew, Nicolás. Thanks to John, I recently acquired hobbies, and today when I share free time with him, we fly fish, we hike, we bicycle, we golf, and we travel. Thanks to John, I feel rejuvenated at the beginning of the second half of my life.
