The design and manufacture of Orbitform orbital riveting machines began in the early 1980's. In 1987 Phil Miller and Phil Shaltz invited me to join them in building a real company out of what was then a rather limited Orbitform product line. By focusing on building robust forming and riveting machines and customized systems we began a journey that has led to what we now call the Orbitform Group.
In 1993 increased sales necessitated a move from our Liberty Street "warehouse" to a larger location on Belden Road. We continued to engineer and build quality fastening and assembly products organized around our orbital-forming components. In 1995 we made our first strategic acquisition by integrating the venerable Adtech line of impact riveting machines into Orbitform. Adtech's history goes back 60 + years to the old Tompkins Johnson machine days. Little did we know that this rather innocent addition would lead to many other "strategic" decisions.
By 1996 we outgrew the Belden Road facility and moved to our modern 115,000 sq. ft. engineering and manufacturing center on Executive Drive...where we remain today. Employment has slowly but steadily expanded to approximately 75 dedicated team members in 2007.
Three more strategic acquisitions have been accomplished since 1995. In 2002 we added Arbor Automation, a very robust line of palletized material handling equipment. This was followed in 2004 with the purchase of Milford Rivet Company. This addition established Orbitform as the most comprehensive riveting machine company in the world by filling in the machine spectrum we previously did not have access to. Lastly, in 2006, we further expanded the reach of the Orbitform family by the acquisition of Marathon Weld Group. This product team focuses on resistance welding applications...with emphasis on fixed tool (H-Frame) welding machines and a developing product offering of small footprint robotic spot welding systems.
Our latest product development reach is in the area of Process Intelligence. We call this our Watchdawg Product line. The mission and purpose of Watchdawg is to deliver solutions by"converting data into actionable information". There are many cool technology driven products being developed within the Watchdawg Team.
To date we have over 15,000 machines and systems servicing a wide spectrum of customers...throughout the world. Though our business is still 65% automotive related, we continue to be blessed with exceedingly loyal customers affording us the ability to avoid the severe valleys often associated with this industry. Today Orbitform Group machines and systems can be found in virtually any industry where forming, fastening, and assembly is required.
With our culture driven commitment to continuous improvement we look forward to an ever expanding presence in the manufacturing arena...world wide. All the while steadfastly focused on ...solutions delivered! |
