Since pearls are the only gem made by an animal..if the animal (mussel or any oyster) can't survive in our waters - they can't produce pearls. The last natural pearl (of substantial size) was discovered in 1940. Since then, most pearls have been farmed (cultured). The industry requires clean water just as our bodies require clean water.
Sherri Bourdage started Bourdage Pearls in the early 1990s, when high-quality freshwater pearls first became available. Tax consultant by day, Bourdage was not only drawn to the natural intrigue and beauty of freshwater pearls, but she was convinced that their value and variety would be of great interest to American consumers who prefer to support an eco-chic industry as apposed to alternative gems that potentially support criminal activity.
Bourdage's extensive international business experience coupled with her instinctive flair for design evolved a simple business notion into a beautiful collection of contemporary and classic pearl jewelry: gorgeous pieces that are available in a multiple of striking designs and unbelievable colors. Bourdage works with some of the finest suppliers across China, ensuring that she receives the most beautiful freshwater pearls available.
Bourdage Pearls believes that wearing the right jewelry can be an empowering experience for women and men.
