In the 36 years that we have been married, John has always been interested in the old West and all things western. He was constantly
looking for unusual items to add to his collection of cowboy gear and Indian War artifacts or out shooting in the desert.
I can't recall a time in our lives when he didn't have something on lay-away somewhere. I remember when he had a single action Colt on
lay-away at Pony Express Gun Shop in Encino, California for a whopping price of $125.00! At that time, that amount was the same as our
house payment back in '73.
We moved to Bishop, California in 1983 where we opened Costanza Saddle Shop and Valley Ranch Outfitters, a one-stop shop for the
horseman. While we loved every day of it, tending to our customers and employees' needs limited our time spent creating the products we
loved.
Fifteen years later in 1996, we sold the store and headed to the Coast. John missed the leather business and decided it was time to move
to Nevada and get back into it. Without the distractions of a retail store, we concentrated our efforts on producing authentic cowboy
gear and gun leather.
Times have changed but John's appreciation for fine cowboy collectables has never diminished. Starting Western Star Leather has given us
the opportunity to share what we love to do with those of you who are looking for authentic, well built cowboy gear and gun leather. |
